Do you suffer from headaches and jaw pain? Do you have difficulty chewing and swallowing? If so, you might suffer from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, also known as “TMJ syndrome”.
TMJ syndrome occurs when the joint that connects jaw and skull – the TMJ joint – is inflamed. This can cause a variety of types of pain, including headaches, migraines, neck and shoulder pain, as well as difficulty biting and a clicking sound when opening and closing your mouth.
There are many possible causes of TMJ syndrome, including malalignment of your teeth, jaw thrusting, trauma, clenching or grinding your teeth, excessive gum chewing or nail-biting, a joint disease (such as osteoarthritis) or lack of overbite. Treatment of TMJ syndrome depends on the cause.
If you have any of these symptoms, contact Dentistry on Glen Erin. We can provide an accurate diagnosis and create a treatment plan for your TMJ syndrome.
