A crown is a custom made restoration that restores a tooth back in its natural function. It is a necessary treatment when a tooth is broken down, cracked or fractured. It can also be used to cover badly shaped or discoloured teeth.
Also known as a "cap", a crown is fabricated by reducing enough tooth structure to enable a crown to fit on top. Unlike metal crowns, porcelain crowns are indistinguishable from natural teeth both in appearance and function.
